Sister Bear couldhardly wait to start her Christmas list. She needed a little help from Brotherwith the hard words, but she didn't need any help thinking up things she wanted forChristmas!

Over the next fewdays the sights and sounds of Christmas became stronger and stronger andSister's list grew longer and longer. After a while it looked like this -

"You know,"warned Brother, "if your list is too long, Santa Bear might think you'regreedy,and not bring you anything."

Sister hadn't thoughtof that!

"Santa Bear hasa lot of cubs besides you to think about - all the cubs in the world."

She hadn't thought ofthat, either. As she looked at her long list she began to get a little nervous.

"Have you evermet Santa Bear?" she asked Brother.
“你曾经见过圣诞熊吗？”她问哥哥。
"Sure,"answered Brother, who was finising up his list - which was very short. "Acouple of years ago. He asked if I'd beengood, then I told him what I wanted for Christmas and gave him my list, andthat was that. It was fun."
“当然了，”已经完成简短的清单的哥哥回答。“两年前。他问我有没有表现的好，然后我告诉他我想要的圣诞礼物以及给了他我的清单，就是这样了。很有趣吧。”
Now Sister was reallynervous. She thought of all the times she hadn't exactly been good...

The time she andBrother had gotten into a fright and shouted at each other.

The time Mama's best lamp had gotten broken andthey told a big lie.

And the time they hadlet their room get so messy that Mama had threatened to throw away all their toys.

"Oh, I wouldn'tworry about those times," said Mama, giving Sister a little bug."Santa Bear doesn't expect cubs to beperfect - just good." Then she said, "I hope you have your listready, because tomorrow is the day you are goingto meet Santa Bear.
“噢，我不会担心这么多，妈妈边说边给妹妹一个小小的拥抱。“圣诞熊并不是让孩子们表现完美——只要表现良好。”接着，她说，“我希望你准备好清单了，因为明天就是你遇见圣诞熊的一天了。”
Sister gulped. "It's almost ready," shesaid. "But what about your list for Santa - yours and Papa's?"
妹妹咽了一下。“差不多准备好了，”她说。“但是，你给圣诞熊的清单呢——你自己的、爸爸的呢？”
"Don't worryabout that, sweetie," said Papa. "Santa Bear isn't for grownups. He'sjust for cubs."

"Pssst!"whispered Brother. "Presents for Mama and Papa is our job, silly! Come on,let's see how much you've got in yourpiggy bank."
“嘘！”哥哥小声地说。“派礼物给妈妈和爸爸是我们的工作，笨蛋！来吧，看看有多少钱在你的钱罐里面。”
Sister had justenough. Brother had enough and a little extra.
妹妹的钱刚刚足够。哥哥的钱足够还有余一点点。
That evening Sister madea new list. It looked a lot like Brother's.

When they got toSanta Bear's little house in the mall the next day, there was a line. WhileSister waited she began to think about Santa and what a hard job he had. She wondered howhe took care of all those cubs; she wonderedwhere he got all those presents; she wondered... then, before she could wonderanother wonder, it was her turn and she was up on Santa Bear's big lap.
第二天，他们去到商场里面圣诞熊的小屋子那里，有条长队。妹妹在排队的时候，她开始想到圣诞熊和他很辛苦的工作。她想知道圣诞熊是怎样关注到所有的小孩子们；她想知道圣诞熊去哪里弄来所有的礼物；她想知道...然后，在她想到下一个想知道的事情之前，轮到她了，她坐在圣诞熊的大腿上。
